Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships

Assisting young, talented Australians in the arts

The Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships provide support for young Australians in a variety of categories to help them further their cultural education and achieve their dreams. They are awarded each year for study, maintenance and travel either in Australia or overseas.

John Chisholm Marten (1908 – 1966), who established these scholarships through his estate, had a life long interest in the arts and literature. The scholarships commenced in 1967.

Scholarships are offered in nine categories that alternate:

  • Acting 
  • Architecture  
  • Ballet
  • Instrumental Music
  • Painting
  • Poetry
  • Prose
  • Sculpture
  • Singing

 

2011 Scholarships
A total of six scholarships each to the value of $20,000 will be offered in 2011. The categories for the 2011 scholarships include acting, painting, sculpture and singing. There are three acting scholarships on offer this year.

Are you eligible?
To be eligible for this award, you must be a native-born Australian aged 21-35 (17-35 for ballet) at the closing date of entries.

The scholarship’s value
Six scholarships will be awarded in 2011 with each recipient receiving $20,000 over two years providing a total prize money of $120,000.
